“My Why”
The mission of ZeeBee’s Heart Foundation is to break barriers to access lifesaving skills and education by equipping youth and communities with CPR, AED, and First-Aid training, emphasizing the importance of basic life support so that more people, especially our young scholars, are prepared to act quickly in life-threatening emergencies like sudden cardiac arrest. Inspired by the survival story of the founder’s nephew, Zaharius (ZeeBee) Hillmon, who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during his senior year of high school basketball, this initiative highlights the critical role of heart health education. Two of his young, certified teammates used their CPR training to save his life. The Foundation was established to transform a devastating moment into a committed, lifesaving community movement. Today, ZeeBee’s Heart Foundation has certified, led initiatives, and trained more than 20,000 individuals, inspiring new generations of confident, resilient lifesavers across communities. Additionally, by distributing AEDs to organizations and public spaces lacking this essential tool, we can help combat the rise in mortality rates due to sudden cardiac arrest, especially among young scholar-athletes.
Our Philosophy
We believe that health encompasses more than simply the absence of disease; it represents a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. While Sudden Cardiac Arrest is not preventable, there are essential steps to detect potential risk factors. Our commitment extends to promoting overall heart health education and equipping individuals with heart-saving life skills through every class, event, and program we engage in.
CPR in Fact Saves Lives: We Witnessed Firsthand
After witnessing ZeeBee go into cardiac arrest in January of 2021, right after dunking the ball over his opponent to go into halftime, we truly recognized the importance of basic life support and the necessity for athletes to understand how to use an AED, just like certified bystanders and trained medical professionals. CPR wasn’t a focus point and didn’t matter much, until it did.
After being placed in a medically induced coma for 3 days, ZeeBee woke up, ready to communicate. Thanks to CPR, ZeeBee's life was saved. He is a walking miracle.
Two weeks later, he underwent open heart surgery to correct a genetic heart anomaly.
Today, he’s pursuing his NBA dreams once again, and we’re dedicated to heart health education, teaching, changing, and saving lives together, to prevent incidents of sudden cardiac arrest.
